Brewster Resort Lays Claim to Tidal Flats

Ocean Edge Resort Lays Claim to Tidal Flats

Doug Fraser reports that Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster has removed “Private Beach” signs it posted to prevent the public from accessing the tidal flats that stretch from the resort’s beach to the water. The Brewster Conservation Administer informed the resort it must remove the signs because it does not have a permit to post them. Ownership of tidal flats, which seems to rest with the resort in this case, has an interesting history dating back to Colonial times.
