"Fed Land in Madaket Declared Surplus”

Jason Graziadei reports that the U.S. General Services Administration has declared 100 acres of federal land in Madaket on Nantucket to be surplus property. The land, assessed at $12.6 million and zoned for residential development, will be sold in the near future. The town of Nantucket has expressed interest in the site as a potential location for a wastewater treatment facility. Meanwhile, several conservation organizations, including the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, are interested in protecting the property as open space.
