Mike Seccombe details the Vineyard Conservation Society’s recent annual meeting, which was held on June 24, 2008. In a talk to the membership, Society Executive Director Brendan O’Neill pointed out past accomplishments and future challenges. For example, over the past 30 years, more than 5,000 acres of privately owned land on Martha's Vineyard have been protected through conservation restrictions, about 25% of the open space on the Island. However, looking forward, six parcels of undeveloped land of 100+ acres are unprotected from development. Also, O’Neill drew the connection between traditional land conservation and related issues such as affordable housing and recycling.
